As a Christian, I, too believe there is only one God, that He is the Creator of all things, and that He speaks through the prophets and sent Jesus Christ, son of Mary, as a prophet and messenger of God.
There are two aspects to this one God. On the one hand, He is JUST. He is angry at the wicked every day. (Psalm 7:11). He is holy and He is righteous, therefore He must punish evil. Adam sinned, and brought a curse upon himself, and the earth, and all mankind after him. Like our father, Adam, we have all disobeyed God’s law. The holy scriptures tell us that death and separation from God are the proper and deserved penalty for our sin.
On the other hand, He is merciful, forgiving, and loving. His mercy and love are equal to His righteous anger over our sin. God does not change, and His holiness requires punishment for our sin, and that constitutes a delimma, since His Book reveals that the punishment for sin is disgrace, torment and death.
In His Mercy, God has made a provision for this, for someone else to take that punsihment for us. But this person has to be human like us, only without sin. How can any descendant of Adam be without sin, since the curse passes from father to son? The Book of Genesis, written by the prophet Moses, spoke of a man who was to come, and called him “seed of a woman” in Genesis 3:15. The prophets foretold he would be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14), therefore born without Adam’s curse.
The New Testament records the life of Jesus Christ, and calls him the “sinless lamb of God”. He was born of a virgin and sent by God to be the Holy Sacrifice to die in place of all who would put their trust in Him. He suffered torment, humiliation, and finally death. But the Word of God tells us that three days later God raised Jesus back up from the dead, and for many days people witnessed Him walking upon the earth, before God received Him into heaven. In this, Jesus is different from all other prophets. Jesus Himself said “I am the way” (John 14:6). By living a sinless life and dying in our place, He bacame a bridge between man and the Father, while also fulfilling God’s perfect justice by paying the price for our sin.
This great mery cannot be purchased by our own efforts. It would be an insult to God’s great and Holy Sacrifice. This bridge can’t help us, though, unless we choose to pass over it. For this living Saviour to be ours, we must place our trust in Him and in what He has done for us. If we confess our faith in Jesus to God, then the shame of our wrong-doing and sin can be removed, and forgiven because of the death of Jesus Christ in our place.
My muslim friend, have you ever told a lie? If I tell you a lie, what does that make me? Does it not make me a liar? Have you ever stolen even the smallest thing? If I steal a penny then I am a thief. The prophet Jesus said “Whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart”. These are the laws of Moses. If I stand before God on judgment day with these iniquities on my record, I will stand guilty of breaking the laws of Moses. “Every soul that has sinned, if it possessed all that is on earth, would fain give it in ransom” (Surah 10:54). Even if I have the whole world as my own and offer it to God as a sacrifice for my sins, it would not be enough. And God’s justice requires this price to be paid. But it does not require that the sinner be the one to pay it. As long as it is paid, the judge can let the guilty go free.
Moses gave instruction that a lamb be sacrificed as a temporary atonement for sin. But Jesus was the Sacrificial Lamb who made permenant atonement for sin. What makes Jesus unique among all prophets is that He claimed He had power on Earth to forgive sins! (Matthew 9: 2-6). The 100% accurate prophecies of Matthew 24, Luke 21, and 2 Timothy 3 prove that this is the Book of the Creator, and the Dead Sea Scrolls prove that the Bible has not changed, though it has been translated to many languages so everyone can understand it.
