Ladybug Poem on a Scotties-brand Tissue Box!

Now that is a way to spread joy!  My hubby brought home a Scotties brand box of tissues, and on the box are these lovely wildflowers and ladybugs in flight along with this poem:

What’s this I see? It’s not a bee!  It skims the blossoms gracefully.

And flies at sleepy summer’s pace to each up-lifted flower face.

Oh ladybug, I wish you joy as you complete your garden chores.

I’d like to put aside my work and join you in the out-of-doors!

Author unknown, but thank you “Tissue Box Poet”, wherever you are!

  1. It is good to know some history on that little poem. Thanks for your comment. I only knew it delighted me to find it there on that box of kleenex that day. I used to suffere terribly from depression and especially in the winter months, and always looked forward to the first signs of spring as a celebration to having made it through the dark days of winter. I’d watch for the green shoots to come up, signs of the daffodils and hyacinth and tulips, and I would work in my flowerbeds in the Spring as soon as it got warm enough. As spring turned into summer one year, the purple morning glories that I planted from heirloom seeds out of my grandma’s yard, had finally come up in one of the many places I had tried starting them, but I noticed holes in the leaves. As I began examining them, I noticed a ladybug under one of the leaves, but it wasn’t the usual red, but rather a shiny gold, like a 14 k gold charm on a necklace. I was enthralled by it, and I gently coaxed this gold ladybug onto my hand, where to my amazement, it lost the lustre and turned a sort of faded orange/brown. I felt this was a special gift sent to me from the Lord to cheer me and remind me that my Savior was thinking of me, even in the midst of my sorrow. I got so excited to go out every day and look for the gold ladybugs. I researched and found they are not actually ladybugs, but are called tortoise beetles, and they specifically thrive on morning glory leaves. So every year from then on, I have enjoyed watching for what I still call my “gold ladybugs” and ladybugs always remeind me of God’s individual care and concern for me. I even took some of the leaves and put them in a jar, and took a few of those gold ladybugs to church with me one Sunday morning to share with my Ladies Sunday School class, lol. It just delighted my spirit. That was when I wrote my poem “Purple Morning Glories and Gold Ladybugs”. https://servehiminthewaiting.wordpress.com/2012/03/03/purple-morning-glories-and-gold-lady-bugs/

  2. My Mother used to recite this poem when she was a little girl in Leona NJ in the 1920’s, but there were a couple f “oh lady bug, oh lady bug” in it as well.
