Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men

Today I watched a very disturbing video of a man being beaten, stripped and robbed, while bystanders filmed it all and laughed.  It is hard for me to fathom consciences so dead, hearts so callous.   Caring costs us something, sure, but ceasing to care is much more costly.

Why do I talk about Jesus so much?  Because I believe the Bible.  I believe it contains the words of God Himself, dictated by divine inspiration to chosen men, preserved inerrent, and that the gospel is the power unto salvation.  I believe that we and all that is around us, were created by an all-wise, all-powerful and all-knowing God who is righteous and just and holy.

I believe that Jesus is the son of God, and came to earth in flesh, was tempted in every way as we are, but never sinned, and died willingy on a cross to take our punishment for violating God’s law by our sin.  I believe that God is a perfect judge and even an imperfect earthly judge is expected to mete out justice in accordance to the law.  I believe in a real and literal hell, and I believe Jesus shed His blood to keep you and me out of it.

So if I believe that, and I love you, if I care about my fellow man, then I have an obligation to tell you that without Jesus, you are headed for that literal hell because you have violated God’s laws, and that there is no way into God’s presence but through Jesus.  I also believe that just as Jesus came to earth once, He is coming again.   And my “blessed hope” lies in the promise that  one day I will be with Him in heaven, and will receive a new, incorruptable body.  That is a great comfort for someone like me, who has lived with sickness for 17 years and counting.  Many will say that is a desperate belief, embraced by a desperate person.  I agree.  I am desperate for my Savior.  I look forward with great anticipation to leaving this world some day and going to a better one, to seeing loved ones again who have gone before me.  And I hope with all of my heart that you will be there too.

II Corinthians 5 KJV

1For we know that if our earthly house of [this] tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

3If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

4For we that are in [this] tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

5Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing [is] God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

6Therefore [we are] always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

7(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

8We are confident, [I say], and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

9Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things [done] in [his] body, according to that he hath done, whether [it be] good or bad.

11Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

  1. Great post. I wish there would be more people with kindness and compassion and who can relate to the tragedy of others. I am a handicaped grand father and a watchman of the Lord. I have much sympathy for so many people. I cry knowing about that which is right now coming upon our nation and the earth. I pray Yeshua would keep the remnant strong and help us through our journey.

  2. Well said, friend. Faith in Jesus Christ is necessary for all. To respond, they have to hear… and the body of Christ is the only one commissioned to tell them. They must hear it from us. “How will they hear unless someone is sent?” Thanks for a great post… God bless!
