Several years ago I was much less engaged or interested in what was going on in the wider world around me, and oblivious to the creeping apostacy in the church, being busu raising my kids and working as a nurse, that sort of thing. I have always loved to learn and to read, and I have followed pollitics for many years, even local. These days I am more informed than “your average citizen”. As I have gotten older I guess I have just gotten broader in my interest about what is going on in the world. (I’ve gotten broader in other places too, but I digress).
Sometimes we think we”ve got a pretty good perspective on things but as Christians we really have a responsibility to ensure that we view these things through the “lens of scripture”. There has been an unfortunate disconnect between what we know from the Bible and how it is relevent to today. In fact there has also been an unfortunate lack of committed study of the Bible by professing believers.
People love “getting informed” a la Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh and the like. (Sure, they do all the work for you). But we are supposed to stand ready to give an account of the hope that is within us. Can you do that in light of the global realities of today? Could you explain to a “baby Christian” new to the faith, or an unbeliever why and how he or she can have hope under the current circumstances? Or do you find yourself anxious and disturbed and unsure, yourself, about “what it all means”?
