Ok, this is big! And I’m pretty sure you will have heard it here first!
Did you know that Deep Woods Off ® insect repellant will take permenant marker off of just about anything! I discovered this one hot summer day when we took the kids on a picnic. I sat with a small cooler beside me, and used it as an armrest. I had written our name on the lid with a fat permenant Sharpie ® black marker. I also had sprayed on the bug-repellant already. So we get to the park, and I raise my arm up to take off my seatbelt, and my husband says “what in the world is all that black stuff on your arm?”
I looked and it said dyolL on my arm. (That’s Lloyd spelled backwards. My last name.) Well, huh, what do you know? I discovered something that dissolves permenant marker ink. Must be some potent stuff. The DEET maybe? (We srpray this on our kids?!?)
I don’t think I have tried it on fabric, but that probably would work too. I would recommend you test it on an a hidden area of the cloth first, just in case.
I’ve used this to remove graffiti from metal signs, sharpie ink on metal doors and siding, sharpie ink on shoes and also for enamal paint clean-up. I guess they don’t call it “Off” for nothin’!
Another nifty trick: aerosol hair spray will take regular ink out of clothing. Spray, scrub, rinse, repeat until stain is gone. If it is especially stubborn (depends on the fabric) a little laundry or dish detergent will also help.
