New Pal?

This cute and cuddly and very playful kitty reminds me of one I used to have.  I’ve dubbed him Obsidian and am calling him “Obie” for short!  I enjoyed sitting out there with the sunshine on my face and fairly mild temps as the sun began it’s descent. (My house faces West). He hung around for a good while, even jumped into my car as I unloaded some stuff, and came up on the porch.  We have had some problems in the area with feral cats, but this one must belong to someone, even though he has no collar, because he didn’t shy away at all.

The other night when I came home there was the brightest full moon and I had every intention of running in and grabbing my camera and seeing how it does with night photos, hoping to share that with you guys on the blog too, but alas, somewhere between the front sidewalk and the front door, the idea fled my mind.  That’s just how slippery my memory can be sometimes!

Totally unrelated to any of that, my hubby, who long-prided himself in the fact he has carried the same flip-phone for, I don’t know, seven to ten years, went out and bought himself a smart phone.  Apple IPhone.  He’s had it a week or more, and had not been able to figure out why he couldn’t connect to our Wi-Fi, even though the phone detected the signal.  Guess who generally ends up having to figure out these things?  Yup.  Me.

I finally figured out that where it asks for the password for our wi-fi, what Apple IPhone actually means is the network key!

They couldn’t make it easy, like Droid does. With my son’s Droid all he had to do was press a button on the phone and another button on the wi-fi and the two gadgets work it out between themselves, cutting out the incompetent middleman, er, woman.

Now, it “only” took me an hour and some minutes to figure this out, but in my defense, I actually tried that in the first couple of minutes, but apparently input one of the twelve digits/characters incorrectly.  I mean, come on, a wee touchpad surface, middle-aged eyes, and pudgy and not-so-nimble fingers, do not make for ease of use!

Which is why I am still puzzling over the fact my husband has purchased a smart phone.  If you remember the fiasco I went through when I first got a slider phone with a full qwerty, you’ll understand why I approach new and advanced phones with some trepidation. ( If you haven’t read that story, hop on over to my Ms. Random Page  and scroll down to read “A Baby Boomer’s Adventures in Technology”).

Heck, with a smartphone who I might have accidentally phoned Kim Jong Un and stirred up some international incident or something.  I can hear it now.

STL: “Oops, it’s ringing!  Oh NO, who did I call…….Hello?, um, hi, who is this I am speaking to, please?”

KJU: “Dis Jong-Eun!

STL: “Jong-Eun? I don’t know any Jong-Eun.

KJU:  “KIM JONG-UN da Supreme leada!  You no heard of me?  Supreme leada of the Peoples Repblic of Korea?

STL: “Doesn’t ring a bell, sorry!”

KJU: “WHAT? Hello?   How you get dis numba, eh? You wan me blow up you house? I see you rie now on my google.  I blow up you whole countwy!  You no call hea again, you got?!!! You no bodda me!!  I have rockets!! I call up Mista Obomma on my spee diaw rie now!!!
