Today’s the Day
On a cold February 6, eighteen and a half years ago,
A nurse wheeled me out of the hospital in a wheel chair
A bundle in my arms
My husband at my side
She checked the car seat
Made sure we had it properly secured
And helped us get him snugly settled in
For the short ride home.
She stood back and wished us well, closing the door
I looked at my husband
He looked at me
We felt a profound sense of dismay
As we wondered how a professional such as that nurse
Could be so irresponsible as to let two
such inexperienced sorts
as us, just drive away with a defenseless baby!
That’s when it really sunk in
He’s ours!
That’s our son!
We are parents!
And we have always been honored, and grateful
that God would choose us for the task of
raising such a special person
Today is his
Solo Flight
Out into the world
To make his own way
And discover all that God has in store
And we are humbled
And we are proud
And we are going to miss him
But we know that the same God who watched over him here
Goes with him and watches over him still
Looking forward to next chapters
To PV2 Lloyd
And so many others
Thank you all for your service to your country!
