Big Dreams

Last night, we were all sitting around the living room, the guys watching television, and I was checking an eBay auction, and Sammy was curled up asleep under the coffee table, when suddenly he bolted awake barking urgently and ran toward the back door, jumping on it like there was someone or something out there he needed to get at.  This was a little disconcerting, considering the fact that he hides his head under the table skirt whenever strangers come into the house, and if they dare go near him, he, with his back turned toward them, will emit a low guttural growl, continuously, until they go away. He runs in off the porch when the mail man comes, barking only from the safety of his position of invisibility to said mail-man.  So we thought possibly there was someone in our yard, lurking near the door with possible evil intent. We set the hound loose, and with gun in hand, my husband went out behind him to investigate.  But there was no one around, and no sirens, no barking dogs, nothing to explain this bizarre freak-out Sammy had.  We finally came to the conclusion that Sammy had been dreaming about someone or something being in the yard, and his reaction was like sleepwalking.

Well, I was sitting on the couch doing my morning devotions and it happened again, and again, it was alarming.  It’s not the best neighborhood and so I did make sure that I took a good look out the window before opening the door to let him out.  He headed straight toward the gate, but still, when I looked around, I didn’t see anything that should have stirred up such a mad reaction.

So, I think Sammy has dreams that consist of delusions of grandeur in regards to his own ferocity!
