For those who watch the events taking place in this world with an eye toward eternity because of their acceptance of the Holy Bible as God’s revelation, do you ever ponder beyond the thousand year reign of Christ, on into the Ages of Ages to come?
Does One who is not subject to time, who knows all things, experience the emotion we call “anticipation”? Surely He “looks forward to” that time, and yet, in Him, it is already so. The only “device” I can think of to even begin being able to wrap my brain around that, is to think of all that happens as a “story” taking shape inside the mind of the Creator God. It is all complete, in Him. He knows the end, from the beginning. He knew those “chosen from the foundation of the world”. Can God “dread” anything? I guess that is one of those nonsensical questions since He controls all things. In eternity, we are promised that we will not hunger or thirst, hurt or cry. What is it like to have that kind of satisfaction? In this life we are never satisfied. No matter what we have, we want something else, something more.
Some of that is due to the fact You made us for more than this, Lord. But some of it is due to our own lack of appreciation, I know.
Stopping once in a while to contemplate that promised, inconceivable future, helps me face the “now” a little easier.
Pure worship, a new name, all sin forgotten, I can’t fathom it!
I look around at the heartbreak and suffering rooted in sin down here in this world. I try to imagine You, before the Earth was formed, and stars placed in the sky, looking out to this point in time. You knew me. You knew us each.
What does a Loving and Holy, and Just and Wise God feel, when He looks upon all of history. How do You bear what You see? Hard hearts, seared consciences, suffering that could have been avoided? Why create so many, knowing so few would be saved?
I suppose a farmer doesn’t grieve overmuch about the seeds that don’t take hold, nor the ones that take hold then wither. The point is the harvest. That’s the whole purpose.
Some day, will we never again give a thought to “this here” Lord? Will we no more remember the foolish sins we committed here? Such a wonderful thing to contemplate. A new beginning! When we are children, all we can think of is someday being an adult and “breaking free” to make our own choices about things. We do not (can not) conceive of the trade-off that is involved. Relative “innocence” in exchange for full accountability. Care free existence for heavy responsibilities. Our status will change once again when we are finally with You. We will no more pick up the burdens we carry here. When we see Jesus, we will be like Him. I can’t fathom all of what that means either, but I know it is better than anything we will have ever experienced in this realm.
Some days I just pause and let my mind wander onto thoughts of that glorious future. I think that sometimes we get wrong notions regarding time. Time, like the Sabbath, was created for man, not vice versa. What is time to God? Sometimes I really think we’ve gotten our understanding of what it is to serve and worship the Lord so very mixed up.
I think sometimes the thing You might desire most from us on a given day may be just to have our thoughts turn to You before our feet touch the floor each morning. That’s just common consideration, the kind we would extend to anyone we shared a room or house with. We ask our spouse or kids what we might do for them,( hopefully we are that considerate to our own family), but what about with You, Lord?
I think sometimes the more we get to striving in our effort to know You and serve You, that often times, the less we actually focus upon You.
We assume what you want, do that, and call ourselves having served You, while never having even consulted You!
We are slow learners, Lord.
I just wanted to think about You and spend a little while just looking forward to our future together. When your church is gathered in.
This old world is passing away, one way or another, and so is everyone in it.
Better things, by far, are coming for those who love You and are the called, according to Your purposes.
Jesus did not pray for the world, but that those You gave Him would be kept from the world. We don’t really “separate our selves” any more than we redeem or sanctify ourselves.
Planting season has passed. Harvest time is almost here. Better than any homecoming or family reunion that ever took place.
Hebrews 4 King James Version (KJV)
4 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
