A blind man may often find himself dependent upon a sighted man to assist him in getting from point A to point B. The sighted man may consult street signs, a map, even Google, and using his eyes, he is capable to find an acceptable route, and lead the blind man in it. But can you imagine how exhausting it would be for the sighted man, if the blind man repeatedly and persistently questioned the sighted man? “Are you sure you don’t want to go left here, instead of right?” “Wait, I think we should go that way, are you sure you know what you are doing?”
How silly is it for a blind man to question the sighted one’s vision?
In this life we see as through a dark glass. We pray for God to guide us, and He has promised in His word that He not only will lead us, but that he does (present tense) order the steps of a righteous man. Yet continually we get it upon our own shoulders, often beating ourselves up for a perceived wrong turn we have made. No doubt, we make bad choices at times, however, if we truly believe God is sovereign, we must accept that we only make those choices with God’s permission. And further, we do know that He works all things together for our good. Despite the fact that we live in a day and society short on personal accountability, there are, none the less, Christians who inadvertently become yoked under a burden of unnecessary guilt and care. It pays to fully realize that just as it is outside the scope of our powers to bring about the perfect outcome which we envision in our circumstances, it is also outside the scope of our own powers to mess things up for ourselves but so much. That is because we have a Father over us who won’t let that happen. So next time you find yourself anguishing in indecisiveness over a crucial decision, or continuing to flog yourself over one you already made, “be still and know that He is God”!
