What is it about the ocean
That holds me hypnotized
As the seabirds dip and squawk
In the tossing of the tides?
Peering into the misty haze
I cannot help but stop and stare
A sudden peace rewards my gaze
At the order that is evident there.
The splashing rhythm speaks to me
And works changes in my spirit
It has a lesson to teach me
And I draw nearer, still to hear it.
As my heart grows silent
I think that God is working there.
And although my mind’s unable
My soul offers up a prayer.
While the tears upon my face
Mingle with the ocean spray
I toss down my heart’s burdens
For the sea to carry away.
