Lord, You have told us in Your Word Psalm 6:6 that “You shall destroy them that speak leasing (falsehood): the LORD shall abhor the bloody and deceitful man”.
By Your inspiration, You moved David to write Psalm 55: 23 saying “But You, O God, shall bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in You.”
“You have (note present tense) trodden down all them that err from Your statutes: for their deceit is falsehood.” Psalm 119:118
I heard Lin Wood, a Trump friend and attorney, say a couple of days ago, for America to “Trust Trump”, to turn off all the stuff you’re trying to make sense of, to figure out the truth, and just “trust your heart”. A strange suggestion coming from an attorney! He suggested that America was created for a special purpose, and God’s not going to allow a Communist takeover. But Lord, You have said “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked” Jeremiah 17:9a. Mr. Wood said for people to buy food and water, prepare for troops in our streets, to stay home and look after your own, expect a possible 2-4 weeks of no internet, possibly no power, and listen to the emergency broadcast system! You never made any promises to America. The idea underlying Mr. Wood’s erring optimism is the false doctrine claiming that Christians are supposed to subdue the world, in order to set up Christ’s kingdom and prepare everything so Jesus can come occupy King David’s earthly throne. Lord You warned us that deception would be abundant in this period we are living in. We are your sheep, You are our Shepherd (Jehovah Rohi). Help us to trust You that way. Faith that is seen is no longer faith, but sight. We will have that some day. But teach us now to walk circumspect in the midst of this evil day. Help us remember vengeance belongs to You, and we remind You of your promise to repay it. When we consider that promise, also help us to humble ourselves and remember that we are saved only by your grace, and were it not for Your death, burial, and resurrection we would still be in our own guilt, headed to the same place as those deceivers.
We do not know what this day holds, and certainly not tomorrow, but You promised that if we draw near to You, You will draw near to us, and if we trust You whole-heartedly, (nothing wavering) You will direct our paths. You are Jehovah Jireh, our provider. You are Jehovah Nissi, our Banner and ensign. You are our refuge, hiding place, strong tower, salvation, strength, and friend who sticks closer than a brother. You are ELOHIM the Almighty, Jehovah Sabaoth, LORD of the (heavenly) armies. You are El Kanna, the strong, jealous God, but also El Hannun, the trong merciful God.
You are just, but often delay Your judgments. You are incorruptible (how refreshing!) and You are to be feared and loved, but also obeyed. When men defy You, and tempt You, you laugh in derision. Prepare us for the days ahead, come what may, to cling ever more tightly to You, and fear no evil, as You promised no weapon formed against you(r own) will stand. We will watch for Your deliverance, knowing You have promised and cannot lie. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
We pray in the name that is above all names.
Amen, Come Lord Jesus
